Absolutely! The main messages these days really seem to be contradicting the actions.
I hear a lot of great messages about being kind and accepting and seeing people's worth, but when you ask why, they don't stand on a foundation of reason. So then when hard times come, suddenly you can't convince yourself that you (or someone you dislike!) is worth being kind to.
I love that Ayandastood video so much I might burst! But ja, it is something that needs to be said, but that's because we live in cultures that say humans have come from the same primordial slime as mosquitoes and viruses, so humanity = valuable doesn't logically compute. If it's been survival of the fittest for so long, how do we convince ourselves that the weak have inherent worth?
“If it's been survival of the fittest for so long, how do we convince ourselves that the weak have inherent worth?”
Wow, this is something I’ve never thought about but is such a valid question.
With the way human life is discarded and blood is shed, it’s obvious the world doesn’t see the inherent value in every human being. And with the focus on survival and individuality, there’s almost no space to think of life as a common struggle where the so called “fittest” should lend a hand to the “weak”.
At the end of the day, our struggles, pains, experiences, and in essence, our humanity, is what we all have in common. I wish that were enough.
