I related to this so much, from the constant need of validation before forming my own thoughts to feeling like I need to be in the know 24/7 despite it completely draining me. Setting boundaries with social media has been a process of trial and error and it’s comforting to know that others share the same sentiment and I hope we continue to experience the peace we deserve, however that may look in terms of individual consumption. Great read as always Fatima! :)
This is so timely, I was thinking of a version of this the other day. Somehow social media had made us comfortable bystanders often times. We’re watching so we forget to do. When we do act we’re driven by the actions we’ve seen and not always for the right reasons. Thanks for sharing!
This is so timely considering I decided to go on a “social media cleanse” ahead of my birthday and just focus on me, my God and how he’s kept me. The fact that I could relate to most of the things you wrote about.
What a read. I loved reading this and hearing your thoughts. I was listening to a podcast featuring Candice Braithwaite and she was also talking about her exhaustion with social media and how much she envies people who just live their best lives off social media. Social media can be incredibly exhausting - the performance, the diatribe, the sheer audacity of people...it's a lot. It is an anxiety-inducing loophole, for sure. I relate with everything you've said, especially this line: "There’s space to have experiences that fill me up and space to discover more of what I like." Yes. SO PROFUND. I am challenged to revaluate my relationship with social media now. Loved it!
I'm glad this encouraged you to reevaluate your relationship with social media. I hope you're able to create boundaries that work for you and give you peace. Thank you so much for reading 🫂
Thank you for sharing this. And twins on no social media because boarding house. The hold it had over me was so bad that I can genuinely say it caused vast emotional issues and then I learned breaks which somehow I've always had the discipline to uphold and those worked greatly. Currently on breaks from Twitter and the gram and I get so much school work done and can actually do better with my writing. I don't think I'd ever take the delete plunge but the attention economy that social media encourages is truly unforgiving.
Thank you so much for taking the time to read! It's good that you discovered breaks and have the discipline for them, as they make a huge difference for you and I hope you continue to navigate social media in a way that caters to your well-being.
Having boundaries with social media and figuring out what works for you is so important. Thank you so much for reading and I hope you continue to make decisions that give you peace <3
I love Pinterest too but I can't have the app on my phone. I just use the web version 😭 Yes to taking your life and time back from social media! Thank you so much for reading. I'm glad you resonated with it.

i could totally relate to everything you said about every app.
i have also decided that social media apps on my phone is not for me & having any notification turned on is not for me either.
recently, started turning off my data for substack as a boundary.
i totally enjoy anonymity as well & my life has been more clearer without having active accounts on social mediums.
i enjoyed this read. thank youuuu
