Welcome to Nostalgia Trip

Hello! I’m Fatima.

I have a penchant for reminiscing. I like watching and rewatching old movies. I like creating playlists of music that take me back to old phases of my life. I randomly burst into song, old Disney songs or old Nigerian hits, with my siblings. I like Yungnollywood memes. You get it.

Nostalgia Trip is a writing project that caters to this. It is a space to discuss things of the past. A place to remember, laugh at, be sad about, make fun of and occasionally, criticise things from the past and explore the different feelings and thoughts they evoke in the present.

I write about feelings, experiences, preoccupations, media, and more, from the past.

Nostalgia Trip is also a space for me to be as messy as I need to be and have fun with writing devoid of pressure. It is my playground and an avenue for me to chase my curiosities, experiment, and go wherever my mind leads me.

Despite discussing the things of the past, at times, I will write about things that have none or barely any attachment to the past—just because.

The Reading nook

I love reading. It’s a big part of my life and a section of the newsletter will be dedicated to paying homage to that. Under The Reading Nook, I will share my reading journey with you. I’ll talk about books, and bookish stuff, and sometimes give recommendations. You can opt out of receiving newsletters from this section here if you’re, unfortunately, uninterested in books :(

Delivery Schedule

You will hear from me twice a month.

First, you will receive the Nostalgia Trip newsletter sometime in the middle of the month.

And The Reading Nook will come on the last day of the month.

The Nostalgia Trip playlist

I also love music and might occasionally talk about it so this playlist will compliment the newsletter and house all of the music I eventually talk about or that gives off Nostalgia Trip vibes. Listen here:

I plan on having a lot of fun here and I hope you do too :)

P.S. If you’re interested in reading other things I write like my essays on feminism and society or my short stories, you can find me on Medium and check out my Linktree. I’m also the founder of an online literary community for writers & readers of African literature. Check that out here.
