Hello lovelies and welcome to another edition of recs! Happy New Year, again, if you aren’t already over that. Here’s some content I consumed recently that resonated or I enjoyed and thought to share:
An essay that's a good retort for the “not-all-men” soldiers
I read this essay titled To the “Not All Men” Brigade — May I Tell You a Story? written by Pranshu "Maverick" Dwivedi and published in Bitchy, a Medium publication that publishes ‘essays on gender, identity and culture through a feminist lens’.
The author (who is a man, by the way!) tells us a story that serves as an analogy for women being cautious of men in general.
It’s a Medium Member story so if you’re not a member, you won’t be able to read it. If you have a subscription though, you can read it here.
If not, here are the last few sentences that happen to be my favourite quotes from the piece:
Because the blame may not lie with all men, but the solution definitely lies with all men.
Yes, all men.
A quote from Eloghosa Osunde
My favorite kind of people whisper to my life through their life: Forget fitting the mold or being correct, just be, just be, just be.
From their column in the Paris Review titled Walk Worthy
Just be.
A video essay on “Infantilization and the Body Hair Debate”
Video essays are my thing; they give me so much joy. This is one from 2021 that I recently watched and enjoyed.
Because they’re so long, I usually listen to them like podcasts and crochet to keep my hands busy.
The Youtuber is Shanspeare and you can check out their YouTube channel for other video essays on many interesting topics.
For fans of Sonny With a Chance: chad dylan cooper hating zac efron for almost 4 minutes
Youtube recommended this to me and it made me so happy. Chad Dylan Cooper was the highlight of this show.
That’s it! Let me know if you read or watch any of these recommendations or anything else you have to say.
Enjoy the rest of your January! And remember no matter how long it seems, the month will come to an end. Bye and see you at that end <3
